‘‘By far, the most rewarding part of this job is that it’s something you can feel great about. Giving someone their smile back changes their life and that is huge. There is just nothing like it.”

I have to tell you right up front that I love my job. Before I tell you why, though, I’ll share a little about my background. My parents were both from Greenville and I was born here. My dad’s job moved us around the country throughout my childhood—including to Georgia, where I attended high school and met my future wife. I then went on to attend the University of Georgia for my undergraduate degree and the Medical College of Georgia for dental school. Over the years, my family and I visited my grandparents often here in Greenville, and we watched the area grow and transform into the vibrant, wonderful place it is today. Upon graduating from dental school in 2004, I moved back to Greenville. A few years later, I rekindled a long-distance relationship with my high-school sweetheart, Claire, who I somehow convinced to move here and marry me! We now live near Cleveland Park with our daughter and son, dog, and cat.

Why I Love My Job…Let Me Count the Ways…

My business partner, Dr. Godwin, and I have a wonderful team here at Simpsonville Dental Associates. Our staff members are all exceptionally caring individuals who excel at the technical aspects of their professions. Our hygienists are the most thorough and gentle hygienists you’ll find. Our dental assistants, while anticipating the doctors’ every move, are always looking for ways to make the patients feel more relaxed and comfortable. Our front desk staff go above and beyond to ensure–from start to finish—that your experience here will go smoothly and that we get you back on your way in as little time as possible. I am very proud of the team we have assembled. They are the very best of the best!

Dentistry is an exciting and ever-changing field. New, emerging technologies and improved materials mean there is always a new skill to master. In order to offer my patients top-notch dental care, continuing education is important to stay on top of new advances in the field. Networking with other dentists around the country is also beneficial, to learn from others’ successes and challenges. My professional memberships include:

  • American Dental Association
  • South Carolina Board of Dentistry
  • American Dental Implant Association
  • American Orthodontic Society
  • Several dental study clubs, including the local chapter of the Seattle Study Club
  • I am also a regular volunteer at Dental Access Days, a program offered through the SC Dental Association which provides free dental care, and have been a regular volunteer at the Greenville Free Dental Clinic.

Being a dentist in Simpsonville SC is also a great match for me personally. I have always had a knack for working with my hands and I am very detail-oriented. Outside the office, I enjoy woodworking, gardening, and renovating the old home I live in. But I have also always been intrigued by health studies and science. Dentistry is the perfect blend of science and art—and yet instead of being tucked away in the solitude of some lab, I get to enjoy the company of my patients and staff.

There can be only one thing, though, that is the number ONE best thing about being a dentist. By far, the most rewarding part of this job is that it’s something you can feel great about. Giving someone their smile back changes their life and that is huge. There is just nothing like it.

I grew up on the creeks and beaches of Charleston, S.C. where I was born and raised. After graduating from MUSC dental school in 1998, I moved to the upstate and began practicing dentistry in Simpsonville. I am very fortunate to be married to a woman that shares the same passion for dentistry and quality patient care that I do. Andi, my wife, is a great asset to my dental team. I have been blessed with three great children that have a multitude of interests ranging from sports, school and church. When I am not in the office you can find me with family, on the lake wakeboarding, or with friends mountain biking. I enjoy photography and have decorated the office with numerous wildlife photos.

Education/Experience:

My love for science and technology helped me forge my way through degrees in chemistry and biology from the College of Charleston. I received my degree in dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Over the years, dentistry has become a marvelous avenue for me to continue my educational endeavors as I have gained hundreds of hours of continuing education on an annual basis. I believe that having a strong foundation of knowledge and experience allows me to provide our patients with more options, in turn, creating better case results.

I am a member of several professional associations including:

  • American Dental Association
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • South Carolina Dental Association
  • American Orthodontic Society
  • Invisalign® Preferred Provider
  • Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation

Commitment to Community

I love being a dentist and have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. The friendships that I have built with my patients and their families are one in a million. It has always been my focus to make each patient feel at home when they come for their dental visits and I work hard to give them the attention they deserve.
